Launching a Blog

If you have been following my blog for any amount of time, you may have come across my previous article about how blogging can help your business. You know why you need to do it; you know it may help. You may even already have the page on your website, but it just sits blank when someone clicks on it.  You just have no idea how to get started.

I’m here to help!

The first thing you need to do is figure out what kind of blog you want to share with your readers. Do you want to educate/inform your clients, or do you want to highlight products or service? Or, you may want to have a mix – you can do what ever you want!

Next, think about how often you want to share a blog. Some sites range from once a month to weekly, but at least twice a month is a good target to shoot for.  How often do you think you can sustainably share content with your audience?

You’ll want to make sure that your headline and the first paragraph have the targeted key words that people would search for (that’s kind of a basic SEO tactic). Another quick way to help get more juice out of your SEO is to make sure you put the title and labels in the description section of any photos you feature, too!

Another important step is monetizing your blog. If you have any affiliate links this is an ideal way to share your links with your audience to help bring in some passive revenue. You will need to make sure you disclose that you are making money off the links in some way ~ usually posting that you will receive a small monetary compensation if readers make a purchase through your links is sufficient! Of course, make sure it makes sense to include the link in your blog – make sure what you include in your blog is giving value to your readers!

Now – get writing! What do you want your first blog to be about? Some people like to write their first blog about themselves or their business; others have severe writer’s block and don’t know what to write. Start with a topic about your business you are passionate about! Write as if you are talking to someone who just asked you about your business. Use your voice to share what you love about your work and let that come through!

Don’t forget to share your blog! You’ve spent that time writing it, make sure it gets read! Share it on your social media channels so your followers can find it and hopefully share it.

Launching a blog can take a lot of time and work. If you still have writer’s block or aren’t sure how to get started, reach out and see how TPO can help!
